The problem with health standards and enviromental regulations is that they are always too late. They come after the established fact.
We can no longer afford this! Today, the speed of introduction of new products, medicines, chemicals etc. are way beyond the pace of those chasing the effects. What will happen when the effect is discovered after the harm is irreversible?
Think back at PCB for awhile. A "perfect" substance that after a number of years has proved to be a toxic with deep and far reaching consequences for the worlds future. PCB is accumulated in the body of all living things. It is a stable substance like DDT and does not break down. It thus goes on and on creating havoc in animals (including humans) hormone systems across generations. Our kids inherit our problem.
Kids are more vulnerable than adults. Toxic levels that kills the young can mostly be whitstood easily by adults. It is just too probable that we create a situation where the next generation cannot survive. Shall we just smile and say "it doesn't matter, God will step in and put everything all right"? Or just say "it doesn't matter, the world goes to hell anyway, so I just want to live good now"?
We have introduced gigantic systems worldwide without knowing the results to the enviroment or to us.
During the first two decades of this century, the world was electrified. During the world war, the world was enveloped by radar. During the sixties-seventies, the world was surrounded by communication satellites. During the eighties, the world was bathed by broadcasted TV from satellites. During the nineties, the world is zapped by cellular phones, soon from satellites. The list is endless... and keeps accelerating.
This affects all of us including every living creature or plant. Can we say we KNOW the long term effects? No, we cannot.
Since the 1950's, there have been over 15,000 reports that shows deep fundamental changes in biological systems to exposure of EMFs of various frequencies. What is really alarming is the broad spectrum of biological effects reported, including most of the spieces and most of the various parts or functions within those. The fact that we see biological effects both at low as well as high frequencies, at vastly different power levels, makes it very disturbing.
The results are not perfect, not exact and not conclusive, but the implication is clear: it seems that EMFs in a fundamental way interacts with life.
Shall we wait until we know for sure? Shall we wait until we are all dead?
What we really need is to restrict new chemicals, new technological products before they are spread in mass-production. We need something similar to the rules for medicines, the requirement to SHOW THAT THE PRODUCT IS HARMLESS BEFORE MARKETING. With that kind of philosophy the GSM system would never have been introduced onto the market, if only because it disturbs other equippment, no telling about its health effects.
We really do need something stronger than an alarm bell; we need to think and evaluate carefully before introducing anything new, not after.
Unfortunately, companies do not want that, they want profit NOW no matter what the consequences.
The real depressing fact is that we no longer have any choice. You or I can no longer choose to be exposed or not. We are all exposed to all our chemicals and EMFs our society puts out, there is no escape. There is no white spot on the map left over.
But we CAN choose to make our voices heard, to make the system change.
