The BEMI monitor has its origin in a personal need for a monitor suitable for electrosensitive (ES) people. The development began 1993 and the first prototypes was finnished in autumn 1994. Since summer 1995 BEMI sells such monitors to ES that needs them. BEMI has a production line for the latest design (12,1") active since early 1997.

The BEMI 12,1" monitor is of a compact and elegant design developed only for electrosensitive people. The monitor has an hand crafted enclosure of solid cherry wood. The electromagnetic shielding is made with various metals inside the enclosure. No plastics are used in the design.

The image area of 12,1" should be compared with 14" CRT monitors which gives about the same image area. In addition the pixels on LCDs are square as compared to round as on CRTs, which makes the LCDs easier to read.

The resolution is SVGA, i.e. 800 horisontal pixels times 600 lines. For each pixel the monitor shows 18 bits of color (262144 colors).

The monitor is very bright (160cd/m2) with high contrast (100:1). The image is very stable and lacks flicker.

The BEMI monitor is capable of automatic adjustment that ensures the best possible image quality. The monitor also has manual on-screen controls as easy to use overlay menus.

The monitor should be connected to computers capable of SVGA video signal. With SVGA we mean analog standard VGA interface with video chip and software capable of 800 horizontal pixels versus 600 lines with 16, 256, 65536 colors or more. This means that almost all personal computers can be used.

Standard VGA cables can be used (male-male) with extension cables (male-female) with lengths up to at least 25 meter. This gives the opportunity to place the computer itself far from the user.

The monitor uses a shielding technique, specially developed for this purpose, that attenuates both low frequency electric fields as well as high frequency (radiofrequency) electromagnetic fields to a high degree. Magnetic fields at low frequencies are very low due to design and magnetic shielding within the monitor. The result is an extremely "silent" device from the ELF range and up into the microwave region.

    The supported video modes are:
